Laboratory Dishwasher

Description

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented dishwasher to support our aquatic toxicology laboratory in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, to support our lab team. This is a permanent, part-time position beginning with two four-hour shifts per calendar week inside of standard business hours, but the exact days/hours are up for discussion with the right candidate - making it ideal for someone seeking flexibility around existing commitments. Shift frequency may increase over time, subject to operational requirements and discussion with the successful candidate regarding their availability.

The role primarily involves washing and cleaning laboratory glassware (such as beakers) and manually cleaning larger equipment such as glass tanks that do not fit in commercial dishwashers. The right person will need to evidence the ability to pay careful attention to cleanliness, as the handling of laboratory equipment is important since it can be fragile. They will also need to be able to detailed lab cleaning procedures autonomously.

What we're looking for:
  • Reliable and dependable with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable performing manual cleaning task
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the role, including handling larger glassware and standing for extended periods.
  • Provision of a reference from a previous employer that can speak to your reliability and attendance.
  • Hand drying cleaned glassware and equipment to ensure items are ready for immediate use.
  • Returning materials to their designated storage locations and maintaining organized storage areas.
  • Ensuring clean glassware, tanks, and equipment are properly prepared and available for laboratory activities.
  • Performing routine checks of cleaning areas and supplies, reporting any issues (e.g., breakages) or stock shortages.
  • Ability to pay strict attention to best practice and safety protocols, as you'll occasionally work with dilute acids while in a lab environment where toxic substances are present.

No previous experience require, but previous dishwashing or laboratory experience is an asset, as it demonstrates the level of care needed when working with laboratory equipment and environments - this can however, be demonstrated via other historical work experience. Compensation: $25.00 CAD per hour
