Payroll and Benefits Administrator

We develop new technologies, design and operate water treatment plants, and provide ongoing technical support which enables us to continuously improve our designs and technologies.

The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented candidate with their Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification and a minimum of 2 years of experience in Canadian/US payroll and benefits, to join our team. This role involves both multi-provincial Canadian and US employees, administering benefits, reporting payroll data to third parties, updating HRIS software, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a solid background working with employee data, payroll administration, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Payroll Processing
· Administer full-cycle semi-monthly payroll for over 100 employees across Canada and US in a timely manner.
· Accurately entering payroll and benefits data into systems (Ceridian Dayforce).
· Verify and reconcile site-based employee timesheets in alignment with work schedules to ensure correct payroll calculation.
· Assist with payroll journal entries, including accruals.
· Reconcile payroll and benefits accounts with general ledger, with costs assigned to appropriate accounts and cost centres.

Benefits Administration
· Administer benefit registrations and changes, including retirement matching and savings plan, extended health plan, health spending accounts and other benefits.
· Maintain accurate records of internal employee status changes within the HRIS system.
· Assist with benefits-related reporting and compliance activities.

Reporting, Compliance, and Data Management
· Process statutory and Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) payroll reports for both Canadian and US jurisdictions.
· Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports to third parties (Service Canada, CRA, provincial and state filings).
· Reconcile annual T4s and W2s.
· Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure data integrity and system integration.
· Track employee leave (vacation, sick, etc.) to ensure proper payroll processing.
· Support audits and maintain proper documentation for compliance purposes.
· Ensure compliance with legal frameworks, industry best practices, and stay up to date with changes affecting payroll and benefit processes.
Stakeholder Support
· Address employee inquiries regarding payroll, tax deductions, and benefits.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support Accounting and HR teams.

Qualifications and Experience
  • 2 + years of work experience
  • PCP certification, or active persuit of, is an asset
  • Prior operation of HRIS software platforms
  • Strong MS Office skills, notably Excel
  • Experience with Dayforce (Ceridian) is preferred
  • Demonstrated history of time management, accuracy, confidentiality, customer service and stakeholder relationship skills

Compensation

$60,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
